There’s something about French Men…

There is a certain charisma that French actor Jean Dujardin exudes off the screen. Something that not just any actor could pull off without speaking!
When I stumbled across these photos in this months GQ I had to share with you! Jean Dujardin to me seems like a more charming, dashing version of Jon Hamm. Maybe it’s the accent? Check out this great quote from his GQ interview; “I learned to tap-dance for The Artist. I love dancing in general, and making girls dance. My generation doesn’t do it enough.” YES! All men take note.
Enjoy the fashion in this photo spread. Lots of stylish plaid suits to come for spring/summer.

Notice, no socks? If you are wearing a light summer suit it is essential that you do not wear any socks! Which means you’d better be wearing some nicely kept leather loafers!

Plaid shirt with a plaid suit. This works because of the ratio the shirt to the suit. The shirt has more of a bold larger check, and the suit is subtle. The pocket square keeps it nice and classy, despite the lack of tie.

This is a bold look, you’d have to be very confidant to pull this one off! Reminds me of 1970′s James Bond. If you want to try this, avoid over referencing the 70′s by keeping your shoes modern and your lapel and shirt collar narrow.

Every guy should try this look. It’s a classic, and one of my personal favorites. You could wear this with dark jeans for a semi-casual look or wear the full suit to a wedding, without overdoing it. Notice the pocket square? I’m sensing the pocket square is the new tie.
If you haven’t seen it yet, here is the trailer for The Artist. (I recommend checking it out before The Oscar’s on Feb 26th, because its sure to win)
My Golden Globe Predictions

I like when they mix TV and Film stars together. I will be posting my votes for best and worst dressed tonight, but here is my predictions on who a few of the winners could be.
BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
- THE DESCENDANTS
Ad Hominem Enterprises; Fox Searchlight Pictures - THE HELP
DreamWorks Pictures, Participant Media; Touchstone Pictures - HUGO
Paramount Pictures presents a GK Films Production; Paramount Pictures - THE IDES OF MARCH
Columbia Pictures, Cross Creek Pictures, Exclusive Media Group, Crystal City Entertainment; Sony Pictures Releasing - MONEYBALL
Columbia Pictures; Sony Pictures Releasing International - WAR HORSE
DreamWorks Pictures; Touchstone Pictures
I really wanted to see The Descendants before tonight, but I never got the chance. I heard it was good. I have a feeling that The Help is going to win this one.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
- GLENN CLOSE in Albert Nobbs
- VIOLA DAVIS in The Help
- ROONEY MARA in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
- MERYL STREEP in The Iron Lady
- TILDA SWINTON in We Need to Talk About Kevin
Meryl Streep once said; the way to win an award is to do a bio-pic, which means she probably will win for her portrayal as Margaret Thatcher. However I think Viola Davis should win. She had a Stellar performance by her in The Help.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
- GEORGE CLOONEY in The Descendants
- LEONDARDO DICAPRIO in J. Edgar
- MICHAEL FASSBENDER in Shame
- RYAN GOSLING in The Ides Of March
- BRAD PITT in Moneyball
Again we have a bio-pic actor, Leonardo Dicaprio, so the vote could go to him- but I think Brad Pitt deserves and award; however Ryan Gosling is well overdue. This one will keep us on the edge of our seats for sure!
BEST MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
- 50/50
Summit Entertainment and Mandate Pictures; Summit Entertainment - THE ARTIST
a La Petite Reine – Studio 37 – La Classe Americaine – JD Prod- France3 Cinema – Jouror Production-uFilms coproduction; The Weinstein Company - BRIDESMAIDS
Universal Pictures, Relativity Media, Apatow Productions; Universal Pictures - MIDNIGHT IN PARIS
A Mediapro, Versatil Cinema & Gravier Production; Sony Pictures Classics - MY WEEK WITH MARILYN
The Weinstein Company; The Weinstein Company
I’ve seen all of these nominations and I loved each and every one! I have a feeling it could go to The Artist, since it was so different…but I have a major soft spot for Midnight in Paris, it was one of my favorite films of the year!
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
- JODIE FOSTER in Carnage
- CHARLIZE THERON in Young Adult
- KRISTIN WIIG in Bridesmaids
- MICHELLE WILLIAMS in My Week With Marilyn
- KATE WINSLET in Carnage
If you want to give the award to a true comedic actor, I think the award goes Kristen Wiig, but Michelle Williams did an amazing job as Marilyn Monroe, and its a bio-pic so I think she might take this one. The tricky part is these two are up against two very popular award winners; Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
- JEAN DUGARDIN in The Artist
- BRENDAN GLEESON in The Guard
- JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT in 50/50
- RYAN GOSLING in Crazy, Stupid, Love
- OWEN WILSON in Midnight In Paris
Man, this one is a hard one for me to pick…Jean Dujardin did an amazing job in The Artist, but he didn’t actually speak! Joseph Gorden-Levitt was so raw and emotional in 50/50 that I think he could be a serious contender, but I think Ryan Gosling could potentially take this one…he’ll either get one for Ides of March or Crazy, Stupid, Love. I preferred him in this film because it was a role we haven’t really seen him play before and he knocked it out of the park!
BEST TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA
- AMERICAN HORROR STORY (FX)
Twentieth Century Fox Television - BOARDWALK EMPIRE (HBO)
Leverage, Closest to the Hole Productions, Sikelia Productions and Cold Front Productions in association with HBO Entertainment - BOSS (STARZ)
Lionsgate Television in association with Grammnet NH Productions, Roya Productions and Old Friends Productions - GAME OF THRONES (HBO)
Bighead, Littlehead, 360 Television, Grok and Generator Productions in association with HBO Entertainment - HOMELAND (SHOWTIME)
SHOWTIME Presents, Teakwood Lane Productions, Cherry Pie Productions, Keshet, Fox 21
I think Game of Thrones should win, but Boardwalk Empire has Martin Scorsese behind the show, and they have won in the past. Game of Thrones has my vote! ( I’m majorly looking forward to April when season 2 comes out!)
BEST TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
- ENLIGHTENED (HBO)
Ripcord Productions in association with HBO Entertainment - EPISODES (SHOWTIME)
SHOWTIME Presents, Hat Trick Productions, Crane Klarik Productions - GLEE (FOX)
Ryan Murphy Television in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television - MODERN FAMILY (ABC)
Levitan-Lloyd Productions in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television - NEW GIRL FOX
Chernin Entertainment in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television
I just watched all of the first season of Enlightened in one weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. But I think this one will be a toss-up between Glee and Modern Family. We all could get a surprise and New Girl could take it, it has been getting lots of buzz.
What are some of your predictions? Do you agree with what I have chosen? I guess we will have to wait until tonight and officially find out. I’ve been looking forward to this awards show because Ricky Gervais is just plain awesome. I saw in an interview that he is NOT handing in his jokes for approval, which means its going to be just as funny as last year! I mean honestly, when was the last time you laughed out loud during an awards show? This guy MAKES the show!

Kate Bosworth made an appearance at the CFDA Fashion Fund party and looks stunning. The Straw Dogs star attend the event with her director boyfriend, Michael Polish. Kate is wearing a skirt and top from Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2012 collection. Head to toe she looks killer; from her hair, to her make up and shoes this creates an amazing outfit! This is somewhat of a fashion forward choice that we at Black Is The New Black LOVE…what do you think of this look?
10 Best Dressed Ladies Of The 2011 Oscar’s
Posted: February 28, 2011 Filed under: Beauty, Celebrity, Celebrity Fashion, Entertainment, Fashion in General, Fashion News, Films, Red Carpet, Trends, What TO wear | Tags: anne hathaway, Best Dressed, Best Dressed Oscar 2011, Celine Dion, Fashion, fashion trends, Hailee Steinfeld, Halle Berry, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Lawrence, Mandy Moore, Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, Nutral, Oscar 2011 Fashion, Purple, red, red carpet, red carpet fashion, Red Carpet Trends, sandra bullock Leave a comment »The Oscar red carpet was a little bit of a let down this year. Nothing really WOWED me. Everyone looks pretty and nice, but overall it seemed like simple won over on the red carpet. Here are 10 of my favorite looks of the night.
Trend 1: RED. Everyone who chose that color could do no wrong in my eyes.
Anne Hathaway won my vote for the best red dress. She looked stunning in this Valentino number. Fit her like a glove…I think her best dress of the entire night was this one on the red carpet.
Sandra Bullock looked sleek, simple and stunning!
Jennifer Hudson looked absolutely amazing! What a way to show off that new figure she has. Georgous!
Jennifer Lawrence from Winter’s Bone looks super classic and chic in this Calvin Klein dress. A little like a Baywatch babe- but stunning none-the-less.
Trend 2 – NEUTRALS. This personally was my favorite trend on the red carpet. It is a great timeless look.
Halle Berry was my favorite by a long shot. She looked angelic in this Marchesa gown.
This long sleek sheath looked great on Celine Dion’s statuesque figure. Didn’t she just have twins a few months ago? Wow.
Hailee Steinfeld from True Grit looked too adorable in her gown! This 14 year old did it right! She dressed her age yet managed to look elegant for the red carpet.
Mandy Moore looked great in this Monique Lhuillier dress. I love how you dont konw where the sequins begin and end.
Trend 3- PURPLE. Both dresses were flowy and both were worn by the lovely ladies of Black Swan.
Pregnant Natalie Portman was absolutly glowing in this Rodarte gown. The color was amazing on her and the neckline beautifully framed her face.
Mila Kunis just bareley made my list. I love the way this Elie Saab dress fits and I love the style but I’m not a super big fan of the color on her. Overall its still a win for Mila.
Who were some of your favorites of the night?
Worst Dressed At The 2011 Oscar’s
Posted: February 28, 2011 Filed under: Beauty, Celebrity, Celebrity Fashion, Entertainment, Fashion in General, Films, make-up, Red Carpet, What was she thinking? | Tags: Cate Blanchett, Fashion, marisa tomei, melissa leo, nicole kidman, oscar red carpet, oscar worst dressed, oscars 2011, red carpet, reese witherspoon, What was she thinking?, worst dressed Leave a comment »Unfortunately this was a much easier list to compile. Some interesting choices by some Best Dressed List regulars which came as quite a surprise. Here is who made the worst dressed list:
Yes, I am surprised as you that Nicole Kidman made this list, she usually looks stunning, but this Dior Couture number looked awkward and ill fitting. On a brighter note- her make up looked great and her hubby,Keith Urban looked handsome!
Another big shocker- Reese Witherspoon! She is normally adorable but this just looks like a dated 90′s look that her character in Legally Blond would wear. What is with that hairpiece?!
Best Supporting Actress winner, Melissa Leo decided to show up in a shiny doily. Not the most flattering fabric or shape. Absolutely LOVED her acceptance speech though!
It pains me to put Cate Blanchett on this list because normally she can do no wrong in my eyes. She always takes a bolder choice, but this one just didn’t work for me. I just don’t get it at all.
And the worst of the worst goes to:
Oh boy, Marisa Tomei in this dress just was a big NO. She is normally such a babe! Did you see her last year? What happened?! This dress just looks like a cheap home-made prom dress. Not a fan of the greasy parted hair either. Wonder what her stylist was thinking?
Oscar’s 2011 in Review.
Posted: February 27, 2011 Filed under: Celebrity, Celebrity Fashion, Entertainment, Fashion News, Films, Red Carpet, Trends | Tags: academy awards, anne hathaway, best speech, christian bale, Gwyneth Paltrow, james franco, James Franco and Anne Hathaway Host, melissa leo, Natalie Portman, Oscar hosts, oscar red carpet, oscars, oscars 2011 Leave a comment »I thought it was overall an enjoyable Oscar show, nothing super stand out other then Kirk Douglas being a cute-funny old man and Melissa Leo dropping the f-bomb within the first 10 min of the show. Honestly that just makes us all love her that much more!
What did we think of Anne Hathaway and James Fraco as hosts? I think they did ALRIGHT; Anne was a great cheerleader and James can read a teleprompter pretty well. Did anyone else wish he would just look straight at the camera, or interact with Anne a little more? What was going on there? If you follow @jamesfranco on Twitter, you can see some behind the scenes footage and personally I think he and Anne had much more chemistry backstage then onstage. Maybe it was nerves, but I almost felt like Anne could have hosted the show on her own. Sorry James
Best speech of the night? I think that goes to Christian Bale- we got to see a softer more emotional side of him which was nice. Natalie Portman was also great and surprisingly had no case of pregnancy brain. She seemed to remember every single person who worked with her on Black Swan- quite remarkable.
Biggest letdown of the night? Gwyneth Paltrow singing from the soundtrack, Country Strong. This was a disappointment because we all saw her on The Grammy’s and guest star on Glee so we know she has the chops to sing. I’m sure its much more nerve racking singing infront of fellow actors who you’ve grown to love and respect. But, despite her off notes- at least she looked SUPER HOT throughout the night in both her red carpet dress and her performance dress.
I wonder if the Academy will be asking James and Anne back? I kind of doubt it- if anything maybe just Anne. Stay tuned for my best and worst dressed actresses of the night.
Rachel McAdams comes out of hiding!

She apparently is still promoting her not-so-popular movie “Morning Glory” in Berlin. Despite the fact that the movie didn’t do well in North America, she certainly brought her A-game to Germany looking stunning in this Michael Kors dress. How do you feel about Rachel’s red carpet look?
Dior’s Lady Grey London

Starring the gorgeous Marion Cotillard and the super talented Ian McKellen.
As I was captivity watching it I couldn’t help but hear a familiar voice in the soundtrack. Our favorite quirky Canadian singer/songwriter/producer Hawksley Workman! This is quite a step for him!
Enjoy
(Maybe John Galliano will pull a Tom Ford and sit in the directors chair for full length film?)
Blake Lively is one to watch.

Which makes her all over the pages of Vogue:
As an avid viewer of Gossip Girl Bake Lively seems to be a logical pick for a new up and coming “fashionista”, I’m just surprised she got on Anna Wintour’s radar so early in her career. Gossip Girl isn’t exactly a critically acclaimed show…and before that all that we new Lively from was Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Directly from all this media attention, Lively has received the role of a lifetime from director/actor Ben Affleck in The Town. I didn’t think she could handle playing a drugged out, single mom from Boston, but she proved she does have some acting chops! Here is a scene from the movie:
Now lets just hope she doesn’t ruin the affects of The Town with her role in The Green Lantern. Either way, she’s still hot…and will always look amazing on the red carpet:
