A Look At: Demi Moore

Always classic, elegant and ageless, we take a look back at Demi Moore’s best looks throughout the past few years:

What’s In My Purse?

I’ve seen a few pictures online of people revealing what is inside their purse or pockets, so I thought I would be vulnerable and show the deep dark corners of my purse!

Most of my purse contents are self-explanatory but there are a few things I’d like to mention:

Band-Aid’s are a must have in my purse. I like to wear cute shoes, which doesn’t always equal comfort, so Band-Aid’s are a life saver!

Sephora Blotting Papers are amazing. Shiny nose no more!

Two of my favorite drug store brand lip glosses, Rimmel and L’Oréal Paris are staples in my purse. I feel naked without lip gloss on! And my secret tip: L’Oréal’s Color Juice is just like Lancômbe Jucy Tubes, but only $9!

A comb is critical for any lady with bangs, it helps them from looking greasy and separating. Plus, you never know when you’re gonna need a last-minute touch up!

So what is hiding in the deep dark corners of your purse? Would you be brave enough to show us?

Fall Color Trend: Dark Teal

The best thing about dark teal is that ANY skin tone can wear it. Its probably one of the most universally flattering colors. Wearing dark teal eyeshadow or liner also is very flattering on brown eyes. Pair dark teal with black, gray, cream, and purples for a fun fall look!

Fall Color Trend: Mustard

Some might call it yellow, some say marigold but I call it mustard. This is one of my all time favorite colors; I love how it brings a pop of life to any fall outfit! If you aren’t bold enough to wear it all over, try adding mustard with your accessories. This color looks great paired with gray, black, blues, burgundy and browns.

10 Best Dressed Ladies Of The 2011 Oscar’s

The Oscar red carpet was a little bit of  a let down this year. Nothing really WOWED me. Everyone looks pretty and nice, but overall it seemed like simple won over on the red carpet. Here are 10 of my favorite looks of the night.

Trend 1: RED. Everyone who chose that color could do no wrong in my eyes.

Anne Hathaway won my vote for the best red dress. She looked stunning in this Valentino number. Fit her like a glove…I think her best dress of the entire night was this one on the red carpet.

Sandra Bullock looked sleek, simple and stunning!

Jennifer Hudson looked absolutely amazing! What a way to show off that new figure she has. Georgous!

Jennifer Lawrence from Winter’s Bone looks super classic and chic in this Calvin Klein dress. A little like a Baywatch babe- but stunning none-the-less.

Trend 2 – NEUTRALS. This personally was my favorite trend on the red carpet. It is a great timeless look.

Halle Berry was my favorite by a long shot. She looked angelic in this Marchesa gown.

This long sleek sheath looked great on Celine Dion’s statuesque figure. Didn’t she just have twins a few months ago? Wow.

Hailee Steinfeld from True Grit looked too adorable in her gown! This 14 year old did it right! She dressed her age yet managed to look elegant for the red carpet.

Mandy Moore looked great in this Monique Lhuillier dress. I love how you dont konw where the sequins begin and end.

Trend 3- PURPLE. Both dresses were flowy and both were worn by the lovely ladies of Black Swan.

Pregnant Natalie Portman was absolutly glowing in this Rodarte gown. The color was amazing on her and the neckline beautifully framed her face.

Mila Kunis just bareley made my list. I love the way this Elie Saab dress fits and I love the style but I’m not a super big fan of the color on her. Overall its still a win for Mila.

Who were some of your favorites of the night?

Oscar’s 2011 in Review.

I thought it was overall an enjoyable Oscar show, nothing super stand out other then Kirk Douglas being a cute-funny old man and Melissa Leo dropping the f-bomb within the first 10 min of the show. Honestly that just makes us all love her that much more!

What did we think of Anne Hathaway and James Fraco as hosts? I think they did ALRIGHT; Anne was a great cheerleader and James can read a teleprompter pretty well. Did anyone else wish he would just look straight at the camera, or interact with Anne a little more? What was going on there? If you follow @jamesfranco on Twitter, you can see some behind the scenes footage and personally I think he and Anne had much more chemistry backstage then onstage. Maybe it was nerves, but I almost felt like Anne could have hosted the show on her own. Sorry James ;-)

Best speech of the night? I think that goes to Christian Bale- we got to see a softer more emotional side of him which was nice. Natalie Portman was also great and surprisingly had no case of pregnancy brain. She seemed to remember every single person who worked with her on Black Swan- quite remarkable.

Biggest letdown of the night? Gwyneth Paltrow singing from the soundtrack, Country Strong. This was a disappointment because we all  saw her on The Grammy’s and guest star on Glee so we know she has the chops to sing. I’m sure its much more nerve racking singing infront of fellow actors who you’ve grown to love and respect. But, despite her off notes- at least she looked SUPER HOT throughout the night in both her red carpet dress and her performance dress.

I wonder if the Academy will be asking James and Anne back? I kind of doubt it- if anything maybe just Anne.  Stay tuned for my best and worst dressed actresses of the night.

Dior’s Lady Grey London

What a beautiful short that was filled for Dior. Starring the gorgeous Marion Cotillard and the super talented Ian McKellen.

As I was captivity watching it I couldn’t help but hear a familiar voice in the soundtrack. Our favorite quirky Canadian singer/songwriter/producer Hawksley Workman! This is quite a step for him!

Enjoy

(Maybe John Galliano will pull a Tom Ford and sit in the directors chair for full length film?)

What a suit can do for a man

It makes him instantly MORE hansom:

Jon Hamm

George Clooney

Gerard Butler

Justin Timberlake

Jay-Z

Leonardo Dicaprio

Matt Damon

Point being, a proper fitting suit should be a closet staple. Every adult man should try wearing one now and then, instead of still wearing this:

I giant tie, with a giant boxy shirt and pleated high-waisted pants or khakis is a menswear SIN. Next time you’re shopping,  make sure you TRY EVERYTHING ON, and ask a sales associates opionin on size and fit.

Blake Lively is one to watch.

Lately Lively seems to be all Anna Wintour can think about these days. Which makes her all over the pages of Vogue:

As an avid viewer of Gossip Girl Bake Lively seems to be a logical pick for a new up and coming “fashionista”, I’m just surprised she got on Anna Wintour’s radar so early in her career. Gossip Girl isn’t exactly a critically acclaimed show…and before that all that we new Lively from was Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

Directly from all this media attention, Lively has received the role of a lifetime from director/actor Ben Affleck in The Town. I didn’t think she could handle playing a drugged out, single mom from Boston, but she proved she does have some acting chops! Here is a scene from the movie:

Now lets just hope she doesn’t ruin the affects of The Town with her role in The Green Lantern. Either way, she’s still hot…and will always look amazing on the red carpet:

Celeb Style Inspiration- Sienna Miller

Ever since watching the movie Alfie, which has  Sienna Miller starring alongside Jude Law, I was memorized by her and her taste in fashion. She had this bohemian/rocker/girly style down to a T. Alfie is such a great movie with brilliant mens and womens wardrobe styling. Then she wen to go on and do Factory Girl, where she goes on to play Andy Warhol’s muse and 60′s “it girl” Edie Sedgwick.  I’ve always secretly wished I lived through the 60′s…so I tried to live vicariously through her in that movie too. Sienna Miller has also has success as a fashion designer along side her sister with their line Twenty8Twelve. So needless to say, whenever I see gossip mags with her in it I’m always checking out her latest looks. Who is your celebrity style inspiration?

Here is the trailer from Alfie:

Here is Factory Girl:

Honorable mention to some other great fashion inspirations are: Cate Blanchett, Diane Kruger, and Rachel Bilson.

Fall 2010 D&G Ads

Well this is a change from the regular sexy-scantily clad ads that D&G usually has! I must say its a welcomed change on my part. I love the ad. Super cute. The only thing I’m on the fence about is the boots…but I can live with them because it makes sense for the ad. What do you think?

Cute Couple Alert!!

Ok how cute are Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterd’s) and Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Fringe) these days? Have you seen them around lately? I must mention that Diane is her own stylist, make-up artist and hairstylist as well as Josh’s, which gives gives her even more bonus points in my eyes!

They first got on my radar at the MET Ball:

Look at how dapper Josh is! And Diane is elegant in white Calvin Klein.

Then the appeared at Karl Lagerfeld’s film presentation party doing some lawn bowling and looking classy, fresh and like they were having fun!

Loving Josh’s rolled up pants and Diane’s high-waisted skirt with the fedora and side braid.

More recently they were seen at the Chanel Cruise line presentation:

Here they are heading on to a flight. seriously, could they get any cuter?

There is such an ease to their style- which is what makes it work. MEN take note- Josh is someone to get fashion inispiration from- he is ON POINT with men’s fashion right now.

Spring/Summer 2010 Inspiration

Here are some ads that have inspired me for Spring/Summer 2010.

Top trends that I am loving this summer:

-Nudes and neutral colors

-Mixing denim

-Light bottoms, whether jeans or skirts

-Chambray, linen and ticking fabrics

-Grey and brown bags and shoes

-Ripped jeans

-Lace baby-doll tops

-Lots of floral print

-Tucked in shirts

-Statement shoes

-Rolled jeans

-Cross-body purses

-Ankle cropped pants

Summer Wardrobe

So for summer I have decided to try to not wear (as much) black. Yes, I know what you’re thinking; “But isn’t her blog called Back is the New Black?” I will always have black as a go-to but I wanted to challenge myself this spring/summer.

I’m loving the new neutral tones and pastels. It’s so light and so fresh! I am in LOVE with the colors blush and minty-sage.

Here is me, on an April day in Vancouver:

The Best and the Worst of the 2010 Oscar Red Carpet

Let me just say first and foremost, everyone looked stunning tonight! I had such a hard time picking my WORST dressed! But there were a few! So with that being said, I will give you my short list of who didn’t quite make the mark.

4. Charlize Theron in Dior Couture:

The flower chest is just distracting. Its all you can look at. Not her best look. I love that she is always daring with her dresses, but this is just an overall flop.

3. Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture:

You know when I first saw the beautiful Zoe,  it was a close up, so I just saw the top half of the dress and LOVED it, then she came out to present I didn’t know what to think! It looks like two different dresses. She is young, and so she can “almost” pull it off, but I do feel it overwhelms her tiny frame.

2. Nicole Richie in Reek Acra:

I do love the colors in this dress, but I think it just too covered up. I think if this dress had a plunging neckline on her it would have made my best dressed list, but because of the boat neck, long sleeves and train its just blah…

1. Sarah Jessica Parker in Chanel Couture:

Ok Sarah- I love you! Chanel I love you! What went wrong?! Well I let me tell you- that weird  necklace/strap thing should have come off as a ribbon around her waist. I’m DYING for some shape to this. Its just not flattering at all…not to mention her hair. Just overall a BAD look.

NOW for our best dressed…I usually I try to narrow it down to 5, but I just can’t! Too many I loved of the night, so lets see how many I end up with!

Starting with the BEST of the BEST, 1. Demi Moore in Versace:

LOVE LOVE LOVE the color. She looks amazing. I wish I owned this dress!!

2. Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab:

The pattern on this dress is beautiful, the color is stunning on her and she shape is A+.

3. Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

Love this on her! It fits her figure beautifully and the sparkle just makes her shine even more then she already does! Congrats on best actress!

4. Anna Kendrick in Elle Saab:

So nude is my new favorite color. This dress so so feminine! I love the little bit of lace in the slit, its a such a pretty detail.

5. Carey Mulligan in Prada:

Cute and classic, looks great on her!

6. Diane Kruger  in Chanel Couture:

Its different and unique but very Chanel. She shape suites her small frame beautifully and I am always a huge fan of cream and black.

7. Queen Latifah

The shape and fit is stunning on her! I love how it accentuates her curves beautifully.

So after all my picks, did I miss any? Who looked best and worst to you?
