Searching for inspiration

This is a strange time of year for fashion. I think its WAY too early to be planning for spring, but that’s what all the runways are showing. I understand why, I just find it hard to get super excited about it when its just starting to get REALLY cold!

Anyone thinking about Christmas yet? That thought is a bit daunting but that is what’s on my mind right now! I always have a hard time finding gifts for those people who have everything- or you can only think of really big expensive things to get them, which you so obviously can’t afford!

What’s on your Christmas list?

What’s inspiring you lately?

Farewell Men’s Vogue

What is this economy coming to? Another major company is downsizing. VOGUE. Their men’s magazine is finished. They have fired most of their emplyees and are only planning to print 2 issues per year. So DON’T get a subscription! If I were you I wouldn’t get a subscription for Vogue either! Their numbers are going down and Elle’s are going up!!

Despretly seeking…over the knee boots!

I fell in love with a pair of over the knee boots by Chinese Laundry.

Then I started searching around for more over the knee boots, because I know there must be something better. I found these, from Urban Outfitters:

I love them both but I cant decide! I like the fact that the Urban Outfitters boots have a rubber sole, but they are suede, and I live with a very rainy winter…The Chinese Laundry boots are wedges, and they have a hard sole.

Does anyone know any good Canadian shopping sites where I can find my perfect pair of boots?

BC Fashion Week

Yes- I know we live in the land of yoga-wear and rubber boots…but some of us here in Vancouver still have a good fashion sense. For the fashionable people of this city its your favorite time of year again…BC Fashion Week! Its Sept 22- 26, and if you sign up for their mailing list- often you will receive FREE invites to the shows! Have fun looking fabulous this week!

What am I gonna buy????

I’m SO excited! I’m heading off to Seattle for the weekend! Its a trip I have been planning with a friend ALL summer. Now comes the most important question–how do I spend my money? I think I will opt for cheap meals and MORE SHOPPING!!

I have a list started already, here is what I plan to buy at Sephora: (although I’m sure I will downsize)

-Tend Skin (its great for razer burn…)

-Dark Red Lipstick (its all over the runways and I MUST have it!)

-Sephora Atomic Volume Mascara

-Nars nail polish and gloss set, Orgasm (great pinky gold shade)

-Mac Jabobs Daisy line cosmetic case

-Tarte, 7 Day Lash Stain ( I wonder if it really works??)

-OPI drying drops ( cause I ALWAYS fudge up freshly pained nails)

Here are a few things I’m looking to find everywhere else…

-A bell skirt (If I can pull it off)

-A plain loose fitting v-neck white tee

-Textured tights

-Souchy boots

-Flat oxfords

-A new Bag (cause I ruined mine with liquid, grrr)

And of course whatever else catches my attention along the way! Wish me luck!!

Make-Up Tip of the Week

I struggle with dark circles and bags under my eyes. Its a constant problem that I could never seem to minimize- but I have found a solution that I can work with.

To reduce the look of dark circles, use a concealer a shade DARKER then your skin tone. You must blend it really well! Light colors attract light (or shadow) and dark colors don’t, so this is the best way to neutralize those pesty dark circles. And, to lift/brighten the eye, make sure you highlight your brow bone with a perlescent pink or white powder–because this ATTRACTS the light…see, this is all making sense now right??

My favorite new place to eat!

Me and my husband ventured out and and tried a new restaurant. It’s called Burgoo (food for comfort). We had baked macaroni and cheese and bacon chicken ceasar sandwich. AMAZING. Burgoo specializes in soups and fondue’s as well. Plus- thave cheap beer, and great deserts.

Its on Main and 15th in Vancouver. I would HIGHLY recommend it!!

Moment of Brilliance #2

How many of you ladies (and men) have bangs right now? My guess is about 70%-85% of the population, since they are super trendy right now.

As a wear-er of bangs, I struggle with constant hair in my eyes. It seems as though 2 weeks after a haircut I have to book a bang trim! Its so annoying, and who has time to keep going back to the hairdresser?? So I decided to take matters into my own hands and start trimming my bangs myself. No problem. EXCEPT for the fact that you have to keep your eyes open so you know where you are going to cut! Do you know how much a short, freshly cut piece of hair KILLS when it gets in your eye? If you have trimmed your own bangs you know the feeling! Here comes the moment of brilliance, (which I kinda stole) why is there not a clear plastic shield that you can put over your eyes while you trim? Something hands free preferably…

For those of you who grew up in the 90′s you must have watched Full House. I remember and episode when Uncle Jesse was doing his hair and he came up with a shield for his eyes for when he used hairspray! This must be patented out there somewhere! If not, someone make one and do it fast! And if you know where I can get one- please let me know! I’m dying and I’m sure I am slightly damaging my cornea every trim!

Rubbers

***FASHION ALERT***

Now that it has started to rain again here in Vancouver, a major fashion no-no has come to my attention…WIDE LEG PANTS TUCKED INTO RUBBER BOOTS?!?! What the? Ok, I know you think you’re cute and trendy in your wide leg jeans (which you are) but opt for your skinnies if you MUST wear rubber boots. Or DON’T wear ugly rubbers and  just suffer through the day with wet hems – a true fashionista would!

Oh my “GOSH”

I just discovered an AMAZING new line of make-up at Shoppers Drug Mart that I am totally excited about! It’s called GOSH cosmetics. The Denmark based company has a ton of waterproof make-up (which we all love in the heat of summer) and they have everything in all the colors of the rainbow! I just bought waterproof pencil eyeliner in lime green, iridescent bright purple and silver! Who needs Saphora anyway?

A little vintage…

Today is the day for vintage.

MINTAGE, on commercial drive is having a bag sale. $5 to fill up your bag…

And I am going to check out THE FABULOUS FIND on main street. I just walked by the other day and they have amazing table and chair sets…great couches too!

TROUT LAKE is having their farmers market. Anyone buy locally? Now is your chance!!!

So that is what I am doing this lovely rainy Saturday afternoon. Can’t wait!

Are babies the new rehab?

Is it “trendy” to be a mom these days?

It looks like almost all the celebrities are pregnant or adopting right now, (Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Ashlee Simpson, Naomi Watts…) and its feeling a bit POPULAR. All that the tabloids can talk about now is how boring Nicole Ritchie‘s life is now that she’s a mom, and how lame Ashlee Simpson is now that she’s expecting.

Are babies the the new “rehab??” If so, maybe Amy Winehouse should get pregnant! Then she’d gain some weight and stop doing drugs. (one would hope anyways…)

The baby boom in Hollywood has also started to affect us “regular” folk. I know SO many people who are pregnant. Its funny how when its all in your face- just like that new handbag- we all want one of our own! A

All I can say is that I just hope these celebrities are responsible loving parents, who don’t just hand their kid off to the latest nanny.
