What’s On The Cover For May

My personal favorite cover for this next month is Salma Hayek. I absolutely love this suit! It fits her like a glove and her hair and make-up is simple and understated. Check out the rest of the covers for May. Which is your favorite?

Best And Worst Dressed at the 2012 Golden Globes

The 69th Annual Golden Globes were on Sunday, and the red carpet fashion was quite tame this year. We saw lots of pale pinks and grey as well as a few peacock blues. Here are my votes for the best and worst dressed at the Golden Globes. The best dress are in order of my favorites. Take a look and tell me if I missed any of your favorites!

Best Dressed:

Nicole Kidman in Versace.

I can’t remember the last time she looked so amazing! She looks like a beautiful Greek statue! This shape is stunning on her, and it seems like she has stopped getting work done, which means we can see her smiling again!

Sophia Vergara in Vera Wang.

It’s not that different of a look for Sophia, but she knows what works for her curvy body type. I loved the colour and the close up red carpet shots, the bottom of the dressed looked really beautiful.

Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen.

I don’t know what was but she was glowing last night! I’m not normally a huge fan of her on the red carpet but she looks absolutely stunning here. I especially love her make up, very subtle but enough to make an impact.

Claire Danes in J. Mendel.

She was one of the first people I saw on the red carpet and I instantly loved her dress. She always opts for something pretty classic, but the back adds an edgy twist.

Salma Hayek in Gucci.

I loved the close up shots of this dress. I liked that it was a bit different from most styles that were on the red carpet. Just when you think Salma couldn’t be more beautiful she knocks one out of the park!

Charlize Theron in Dior.

At first glance I wasn’t sure about this dress, but the more and more I saw it I grew to love it. I also loved her hair and make up. It completes the overall look perfectly.

Worst Dressed:

Most people on the red carpet played it pretty safe and looked beautiful, but unfortunately there was 2 people that didn’t quite do it for me. Here are my picks for worst dressed;

Zooey Deschanel in Prada.

I hate to say this, because I am a huge fan of Zooey’s but this dress was not flattering on her petite frame, and her hair…yikes. You can’t really tell in this photo, but in some angles, one of her layers looked like side burns…not a look you want to go for. On a brighter note, her make up looked amazing!

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace.

When she first hit the red carpet I didn’t mind this dress, but as the night grew on she looked uncomfortable and cold. The fabric of this dress cheapened it to me, and I did not like how thin she looked last night.

Did you enjoy the awards last night? I felt Ricky Gervais was quite safe last night…there was a few good one liners from Seth Rogan and Meryl Streep! I’m glad The Artist won a few awards, it was a great film. Michelle Williams did a great job in My Week With Marilyn so she deserved the win, even though I’m not sure why it that film was categorized as a comedy/musical…The Golden Golbes are usually a hint as to what we will see at the Oscars, so it should be interesting to see if a few of the same people bring home the win!

My Golden Globe Predictions

The 69th Annual Golden Globes air tonight and this is an awards show I always look forward to. I like when they mix TV and Film stars together. I will be posting my votes for best and worst dressed tonight, but here is my predictions on who a few of the winners could be.

BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA

  1. THE DESCENDANTS
Ad Hominem Enterprises; Fox Searchlight Pictures
  2. THE HELP
DreamWorks Pictures, Participant Media; Touchstone Pictures
  3. HUGO
Paramount Pictures presents a GK Films Production; Paramount Pictures
  4. THE IDES OF MARCH
Columbia Pictures, Cross Creek Pictures, Exclusive Media Group, Crystal City Entertainment; Sony Pictures Releasing
  5. MONEYBALL
Columbia Pictures; Sony Pictures Releasing International
  6. WAR HORSE
    DreamWorks Pictures; Touchstone Pictures

I really wanted to see The Descendants before tonight, but I never got the chance. I heard it was good. I have a feeling that The Help is going to win this one.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA

  1. GLENN CLOSE in Albert Nobbs
  2. VIOLA DAVIS in The Help
  3. ROONEY MARA in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
  4. MERYL STREEP in The Iron Lady
  5. TILDA SWINTON in We Need to Talk About Kevin

Meryl Streep once said; the way to win an award is to do a bio-pic, which means she probably will win for her portrayal as Margaret Thatcher.  However I think Viola Davis should win. She had a Stellar performance by her in The Help.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA

  1. GEORGE CLOONEY in The Descendants
  2. LEONDARDO DICAPRIO in J. Edgar
  3. MICHAEL FASSBENDER in Shame
  4. RYAN GOSLING in The Ides Of March
  5. BRAD PITT in Moneyball

Again we have a bio-pic actor, Leonardo Dicaprio, so the vote could go to him- but I think Brad Pitt deserves and award; however Ryan Gosling is well overdue. This one will keep us on the edge of our seats for sure!

BEST MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL

  1. 50/50
Summit Entertainment and Mandate Pictures; Summit Entertainment
  2. THE ARTIST
a La Petite Reine – Studio 37 – La Classe Americaine – JD Prod- France3 Cinema – Jouror Production-uFilms coproduction; The Weinstein Company
  3. BRIDESMAIDS
Universal Pictures, Relativity Media, Apatow Productions; Universal Pictures
  4. MIDNIGHT IN PARIS
A Mediapro, Versatil Cinema & Gravier Production; Sony Pictures Classics
  5. MY WEEK WITH MARILYN
The Weinstein Company; The Weinstein Company

I’ve seen all of these nominations and I loved each and every one! I have a feeling it could go to The Artist, since it was so different…but I have a major soft spot for Midnight in Paris, it was one of my favorite films of the year!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL

  1. JODIE FOSTER in Carnage
  2. CHARLIZE THERON in Young Adult
  3. KRISTIN WIIG in Bridesmaids
  4. MICHELLE WILLIAMS in My Week With Marilyn
  5. KATE WINSLET in Carnage

If you want to give the award to a true comedic actor, I think the award goes Kristen Wiig, but Michelle Williams did an amazing job as Marilyn Monroe, and its a bio-pic so I think she might take this one. The tricky part is these two are up against two very popular award winners; Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL

  1. JEAN DUGARDIN in The Artist
  2. BRENDAN GLEESON in The Guard
  3. JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT in 50/50
  4. RYAN GOSLING in Crazy, Stupid, Love
  5. OWEN WILSON in Midnight In Paris

Man, this one is a hard one for me to pick…Jean Dujardin did an amazing job in The Artist, but he didn’t actually speak! Joseph Gorden-Levitt was so raw and emotional in 50/50 that I think he could be a serious contender, but I think Ryan Gosling could potentially take this one…he’ll either get one for Ides of March or Crazy, Stupid, Love. I preferred him in this film because it was a role we haven’t really seen him play before and he knocked it out of the park!

BEST TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA

  1. AMERICAN HORROR STORY (FX)
    Twentieth Century Fox Television
  2. BOARDWALK EMPIRE (HBO)
Leverage, Closest to the Hole Productions, Sikelia Productions and Cold Front Productions in association with HBO Entertainment
  3. BOSS (STARZ)
Lionsgate Television in association with Grammnet NH Productions, Roya Productions and Old Friends Productions
  4. GAME OF THRONES (HBO)
Bighead, Littlehead, 360 Television, Grok and Generator Productions in association with HBO Entertainment
  5. HOMELAND (SHOWTIME)
SHOWTIME Presents, Teakwood Lane Productions, Cherry Pie Productions, Keshet, Fox 21

I think Game of Thrones should win, but Boardwalk Empire has Martin Scorsese behind the show, and they have won in the past. Game of Thrones has my vote! ( I’m majorly looking forward to April when season 2 comes out!)

BEST TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL

  1. ENLIGHTENED (HBO)
Ripcord Productions in association with HBO Entertainment
  2. EPISODES (SHOWTIME)
SHOWTIME Presents, Hat Trick Productions, Crane Klarik Productions
  3. GLEE (FOX)
Ryan Murphy Television in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television
  4. MODERN FAMILY (ABC)
Levitan-Lloyd Productions in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television
  5. NEW GIRL FOX
Chernin Entertainment in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television

I just watched all of the first season of Enlightened in one weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. But I think this one will be a toss-up between Glee and Modern Family. We all could get a surprise and New Girl could take it, it has been getting lots of buzz.

What are some of your predictions? Do you agree with what I have chosen? I guess we will have to wait until tonight and officially find out. I’ve been looking forward to this awards show because Ricky Gervais is just plain awesome. I saw in an interview that he is NOT handing in his jokes for approval, which means its going to be just as funny as last year! I mean honestly, when was the last time you laughed out loud during an awards show? This guy MAKES the show!

The Best and the Worst of the 2010 Oscar Red Carpet

Let me just say first and foremost, everyone looked stunning tonight! I had such a hard time picking my WORST dressed! But there were a few! So with that being said, I will give you my short list of who didn’t quite make the mark.

4. Charlize Theron in Dior Couture:

The flower chest is just distracting. Its all you can look at. Not her best look. I love that she is always daring with her dresses, but this is just an overall flop.

3. Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture:

You know when I first saw the beautiful Zoe,  it was a close up, so I just saw the top half of the dress and LOVED it, then she came out to present I didn’t know what to think! It looks like two different dresses. She is young, and so she can “almost” pull it off, but I do feel it overwhelms her tiny frame.

2. Nicole Richie in Reek Acra:

I do love the colors in this dress, but I think it just too covered up. I think if this dress had a plunging neckline on her it would have made my best dressed list, but because of the boat neck, long sleeves and train its just blah…

1. Sarah Jessica Parker in Chanel Couture:

Ok Sarah- I love you! Chanel I love you! What went wrong?! Well I let me tell you- that weird  necklace/strap thing should have come off as a ribbon around her waist. I’m DYING for some shape to this. Its just not flattering at all…not to mention her hair. Just overall a BAD look.

NOW for our best dressed…I usually I try to narrow it down to 5, but I just can’t! Too many I loved of the night, so lets see how many I end up with!

Starting with the BEST of the BEST, 1. Demi Moore in Versace:

LOVE LOVE LOVE the color. She looks amazing. I wish I owned this dress!!

2. Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab:

The pattern on this dress is beautiful, the color is stunning on her and she shape is A+.

3. Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

Love this on her! It fits her figure beautifully and the sparkle just makes her shine even more then she already does! Congrats on best actress!

4. Anna Kendrick in Elle Saab:

So nude is my new favorite color. This dress so so feminine! I love the little bit of lace in the slit, its a such a pretty detail.

5. Carey Mulligan in Prada:

Cute and classic, looks great on her!

6. Diane Kruger  in Chanel Couture:

Its different and unique but very Chanel. She shape suites her small frame beautifully and I am always a huge fan of cream and black.

7. Queen Latifah

The shape and fit is stunning on her! I love how it accentuates her curves beautifully.

So after all my picks, did I miss any? Who looked best and worst to you?

Anyone can wear red lipstick!

In case you haven’t noticed yet- come every fall everyone starts to wear red lipstick again. Have you always been intimidated by the bold red lip? I know I was. I thought I had to be platinum blond like Gwen Stephani to be able to pull it off. Turns out you just need to find your right shade! Even redhead’s like me can do it!

If you have a cool skin tone, you will look best in purple or blue based reds; like berry, plum, and cherry reds.

If you have a warm skin tone, you will look best in orange or gloden shades; like poppy, coral and rust.

Naturally if you are a brunette or a blond you can also get away with wearing more shades of red. But redheads, don’t fret! The same rule applies of warm and cool when finding the right shade. You also want to consider if your shade of red hair is warm or cool as well.

**Tips for holding your red lips in place**

- Start with clean dry lips and put a light layer of foundation on your lips as your base

- Only do up to 2 layers of lipstick, but blot your fist layer between tissue to make it matte, then apply your final coat

- Avoid putting any gloss on top

- Make an “o” with your lips and put your finger through, this will take off the the excess that can embarrassingly end up on your teeth!

- Matte shades stay on longer the shiny or glossy shades

- Don’t be afraid to re-apply throughout the night

-If you wont have time to re-apply, invest in a lip stain, instead of a lipstick

This product will be your best friend. It’s called She Laq by Benefit. It’s a make up sealer that holds in your mascara, eyeshadow or lipstick! You can now find most Benefit products at Shoppers Drug Mart or Sephora.
